A good alternative to big brand headunits

I have owned this product now for little over a hundred days. I was looking for a replacement for my damaged Chevrolet Cruze 2013 OEM MyLink system. After checking comparison and review videos online, I decided to go for a T'EYES unit for its allegedly superior customization options.

I was pleased with the general price of the unit compared to those of similarly functioning headunits by some well-known brands. What astonished me were the shipping costs, which turned out to be up to a hundred euros. I still decided to go for it, and after emailing the support for handling the customs clearance, I was informed that the customs fees were included in the standard shipping. I wish T'EYES had made that clear on their website. because after learning that I think the shipping price is reasonable.

The package arrived in Northern Europe in a month or so. It was surprisingly easy to install; the hardest part was disassembling the factory-installed radio system. The package included almost everything you need for installing the headunit and connecting it to your car, and of course it included the plastic frame. Unfortunately the plastic frame was completely black and made of cheap plastic, as I would have liked it to match the originasl silver color of the frame that I had to replace. Fortunately the frame fit reasonably well and it did include the little slot on top of the radio to fill the gap where the small MyLink screen used to be.

The package came with installation instructions in English and also had a diagram of different ports in the headunit, which made it easy to connect different inputs to the system. I said that the package included almost everything, and this is a really big minus for T'EYES, since there was no adapter included that allowed me to attach my OEM reverse camera to the system. The package also included a new reverse camera with a compatible RCA adpater, but my factory-installed camera doesn't support RCA and therefore I can't use it with the headunit without purchasing an additional adapter online. This was my first big disappointment with the system. Otherwise, installing the headunit was very easy for a person who barely knows their way around the hood of the car.

I turned on the car and I was pleasantly surprised of how good and sharp the image was on the headunit. The system was also very customizable; I didn't need to change much from the factory settings, just a few default apps. The customized Android OS comes with a handful of apps, such as navigation and a music player. Connecting my phone to the system was easy and I could also play music through the Bluetooth connection. Almost everything worked perfectly.

I had two problems with the software. First, the default radio app is a first-party T'EYES app. The data for found radio stations seemingly comes from their database, and in my region only one of the stations had a name and a logo. Besides that one station, the app didn't display any information on which station I was listening to at any time. So, instead of using the built-in radio, I downloaded a third-party radio app off Google Play, which worked wonderfully.

Second, even though T'EYES was praised for their customization options online, I found it really difficult to change the default widgets and app layouts on the system's default landing view. I managed to solve the problem by changing the Android theme to another one that I could customize more easily, but I was a bit disappointed that T'EYES wouldn't let me customize the default widget layout to my liking.

There are also some smaller issues I have with the system. The radio receiver seems a lot weaker than my old OEM system's, especially when I'm not in an urban area. The plastic frame fits well but there is no way to bolt it into the car properly like the original one, so I feel it could fall off in an impact. Besides the few problems I discussed, I still feel this headunit is worth its price and I feel installing it has made my drives more enjoyable and the value of my car slightly higher. I recommend this headunit even with its faults, if you're looking for something more modern compared to your OEM system and don't want to pay a steep price for a well-known brand headunit. I will attach before-and-after comparison photos of this system to this review.
