Land Cruiser 76 DIY install - very happy!

This is my review of the Teyes CC3 fitted to my 2021 Land Cruiser 76.

IN SUMMARY…
I have been using the unit for the past three weeks and have no dislikes so far. I think the CC3 is good value and works very well. It looks great on the dashboard. I remain pleased with my purchase decision.

INSTALLATION…
The installation process was straightforward - particularly if you have already fitted a reversing camera to the factory head unit as the same camera works with the CC3 - you just have to join the reverse light cable to the appropriately labelled wire on the supplied CC3 harness. Apart from that there were no other wires to splice; the supplied harness worked with my existing vehicle connectors. If you are fitting a DAB radio adaptor don’t use USB1 for it as USB1 is used (amongst other things) for firmware updates via USB stick. I brought USB1 to a dash-mounted socket (see photo) and connected the DAB stick to USB2 behind the head unit. There’s plenty of room behind as the CC3 extends far less into the dashboard compared to the factory unit. If you are activating Teyes voice, do that early-on as it requires a factory reset/wipe to activate. I also installed the Teyes OBD2 adaptor but had some issues with it and ended up buying an OBDLink LX adaptor which works much better. The supplied vehicle specific dashboard frame/fascia needed some filing down in a few places to fit properly into the dash. Once installed the head unit looks great but the frame/fascia is not quite up to OEM standard in terms of molding quality and that’s my only slight disappointment. That said, I am a perfectionist and everyone who sees it loves it.

WHAT I LIKE…
Compared to the factory box, the CC3 is a huge improvement. It looks better (see photo), works better and the sound is better. The screens move fast with no stutters or stumbles and it hasn’t crashed ever. I’ve downloaded a few apps worth mentioning…. DAB-Z for digital radio. Exploroz (with hi-res offline maps) for outback 4wd-ing. Torque Pro (a lot better than the CC3’s supplied OBD software) for a virtual dashboard (see photo). Google Maps with a downloaded local map works well around town compared to the CC3’s supplied Yandex mapping app which is useless in Australia. Although the CC3 has independent 4G data capability, I haven’t bothered installing a SIM, I just tether to my home WIFI or mobile phone hotspot when needed. I have emailed Teyes (Dan) a few times during purchase and installation and he has always responded within 24 hours; it is definitely a major plus to know that the supplier is responsive to any queries you have along the way.

Good Android Headunit

Two weeks after installing the Teyes CC3 I can say that I am more than satisfied with the car radio. It took me a while to get used to the Teyes Android menus. The translations in German are sometimes difficult to interpret. The voice commands in German are not usable, therefore only 4 stars.

Pretty good unit

I've so far found the CC3 to be a pretty good unit. A few little things like settings that seem to default to factory every now and then. No big issue.

Instal into the Landcruiser VDJ79 was simple, took about 15 mins including removing the old unit. You must swap over the factory clip/tabs from the factory facia.

Looks good and fits well.

Frame & Band28A issues

There are couple of issues with the CC3.
1. In Australia Telstra uses Band28, however Teyes use Band28A, which is only part of the Band28 spectrum. So, depending on what tower you are connected to you may, or may not, get 4G & internet.

2. The frame for the Toyota 79 Landcruiser required modification to the clips to make it fit.

Hopefully Teyes can fix both issues.
